MemDecks

Features

Practise speaking with ChatGPT

MemDecks connects to ChatGPT as a plugin. Once it is connected, you can ask ChatGPT for a conversation in your study language, by voice or in text, and it talks with you on your own words: it brings up the ones you are still learning, uses the ones you know, and picks up where your last conversation stopped. When you meet a word you want to keep, you say so and it lands in your collection with a translation, audio and a picture. Words you say yourself earn practice credit on your cards.

What you need

  • A MemDecks account. A guest session cannot be connected, because the conversation has to find the same collection the next day.
  • Some cards in the language you want to practise. Ten is enough to start; the more you have, the more the conversation can lean on.
  • ChatGPT with plugins, on the web, on iOS or on Android. Voice conversations can use the plugin too.

Connect it once

  1. In ChatGPT, open Plugins, search for MemDecks and press Add.
  2. ChatGPT opens a MemDecks page. Sign in, and press Allow.
  3. That is all. The connection stays until you remove the plugin in ChatGPT; there is nothing to set up again.

What a conversation looks like

Ask for one in your own words, for example "Let's talk in Armenian", and switch to voice if you like. From there:

  • It starts from your words. ChatGPT gets about a dozen cards you are still learning and some you already know, and steers the talk so that you have to say the weak ones yourself. It does not read lists at you.
  • It continues from last time. Each conversation leaves a short summary, and the next one starts from the three most recent: the topics, what went well, the mistakes worth another try.
  • It corrects lightly. A mistake is answered with the right form of your own sentence; a rule is explained only when the same mistake comes back.
  • "Keep this word" saves it to your collection right away, in the middle of the conversation.
  • "Do I know this word?" is answered from your collection, with how well you know it.
  • "Let's stop" ends it: ChatGPT credits the words you said, saves the summary, and tells you what to work on next.

What ends up in MemDecks

What a conversation changes in MemDecks, as of 23 October 2026
What happenedWhat MemDecks records
You said a word from your collection yourself5 points of score on that card, once per conversation. A correct answer in a game gives 1.
You asked to keep a wordA new card with the translation, transliteration where the script needs it, audio, and the first picture MemDecks finds for the word.
The conversation endedA summary of a few sentences, which the next conversation starts from.

Nothing else changes. ChatGPT cannot edit or delete your cards, and it never sees your password.

How a new word is saved

The word you heard is the one that is saved. MemDecks first looks it up in its own dictionary; if the dictionary knows it, the card is a full dictionary card, linked to the meaning you met — "to order coffee" and "to give an order" are different cards. If the dictionary does not know the word, it is saved exactly as ChatGPT wrote it, with the English meaning ChatGPT gave, and its audio is recorded a few seconds later.

What ChatGPT can see

The cards of the language you practise, with how well you know each, and the summaries of your earlier conversations. It does not see your email address, the cards of your other study languages unless you ask to switch, or anything outside your collection. Everything you say is handled by ChatGPT under OpenAI's terms; MemDecks receives only the words and the summary described above.

To disconnect, remove the MemDecks plugin in ChatGPT's settings.

Limits

  • Collections studied from English work today: every study language MemDecks supports, learned from English.
  • The words ChatGPT reports as "said" are its judgement of the conversation. It is usually right; it is not a test.
  • Claude can connect the same way, as a custom connector.
